In a recent video, Helen talked about the things that genuinely make her smile. Alongside green space, her dog and good friends, she mentioned something easy to overlook: throwing a ball for her dog. She had never properly learned how to throw, so over time she found her own way of doing it. A way that worked for her, even if it looked nothing like anyone else’s.

That small moment says a lot about what we believe in at RYTC. Creative expression, whether that’s theatre, film or music, is rarely about doing things the “correct” way. It’s about finding the way that works for you, the one that lets you feel calm, capable and genuinely yourself.

Helen also spoke about how being in green space made her feel her shoulders drop, almost like a physical breathe out. That’s not a coincidence. Creative and outdoor activity genuinely calms an overactive nervous system, which is exactly why our projects lean into creative arts as a tool for positive mental health, not just a nice extra.

Whether it’s a family session, a school project or a bespoke programme for an organisation, our aim is the same: give people the space to find their own way of doing things, and watch their confidence grow because of it.
